Monday 11th November 2019 - Day 1 is all going well! We arrived safe and well at the Gordon Brown Centre to the sunshine. We did a tour of the grounds and most importantly met all the animals. The kids favourites are with the rabbits and the chickens. Our afternoon afternoon activity was orienteering and the teachers teamed up to ultimately win the afternoon. After our delicious dinner tonight we did a quiz which the children showed their academic skills!
Tuesday 12th November 2019 - Day 2 has been a busy day for us all! We had an early start off in the minibuses to a local town where we took part in a history walk. We saw 13th Century Odiham Castle as well as St Mary’s Church that is over 1000 years old. We walked back through the fields and ended up with very muddy wellies!
This afternoon we went pond dipping and found some amazing pond animals. We also found some minibeast around the campfire. Tonight we are rugged up and off on a night walk. All happy and well here at camp!
Wednesday 13th November 2019 - Day 3 was our survival themed day. We started off by building shelters in the forest after visiting the local World War II Anderson shelter. The groups all put in an impressive effort and built shelters that would help them survive in the wild.
After our delicious lunch we went into the forest to collect sticks to build a campfire. We built 4 very successful fires and even cooked popcorn on them. Delicious! The kids loved being by the fires to warm them up in this cold weather too.
This evening we made lanterns using glass jars and tissue paper. They all look amazing and there are some lucky families who will be receiving these as gifts!
Thursday 14th November 2019 - Day 4 - Today we all had a lie-in as we have really worn ourselves out on this trip! We started the day at the climbing walls where all the students showed great bravery, some even completing the death drop. After lunch we headed off to the trim trail where we competed in teams in time trials, swinging like Tarzan and jumping through a huge spiderweb-like rope.
Friday 15th November 2019 - Day 5 - Bitter sweet morning today. We are happy to be going home but sad to be leaving Gordon Brown at the same time. We started the day with breakfast and then we had to clean up our dormitories (parents get ready for muddy clothes!). After our packing we went to do our final activity which was archery. The students were very skilled in this and there was many bullseyes shot. We had our final meal at GBC and spoke of our favourite parts of the week all the way home. The students have grown a lot this week and Miss Ellis, Miss Majeed and Miss Celotto are proud of them all!
